New Ladies Hostel

Since the foundation of Cedar College of
Education in the early nineties, God has
faithfully given growth. So much so that the
current female student hostel is far too
small; in fact, ten folds of students were
turned away this year due to the lack of
sufficient accommodation.
On completion, the new hostel will be able
to accommodate 90 students together with
flats for staff and hostel parents. The
first phase of the building is currently
under construction and will accommodate 64
students. As the Lord provides, the building
of the full plan will proceed.
As more male students are enrolling, the
College will soon have to build yet another
hostel!

First Years
2010
Every year brings new challenges, and Cedar
College is no exception. With only four 4th
years leaving and fifteen 1st years
starting, the need for a new college hostel
is greater than ever.

Nevertheless every new student is warmly
welcomed as part of the “CCE Family”.
This year’s 1st year group includes students
from Romania and Korea, as well as a strong
South African presence of Indian, Zulu and
Afrikaans students.
The First Year Welcoming was held on the
Friday, 5 February, and included a pleasant
blend of fun activities, speeches and
spiritual input from students and lecturers
alike.
Eight 4th
years on their way!
With heavy hearts that we said our goodbyes
to the 2008 fourth years. Some will leave to
their home countries; Romania, America,
Botswana, Lesotho and within SA. What a
unique group with different cultures and
backgrounds but united in Christ.
It is our hope, prayer and plea that you
will be fruitful wherever the Lord places
you. Let your torch shine clear!
Report on
Fourth Year Outreach 2009
We, the 4th year students of 2009, are
thankful for the opportunity that we had to
go on the outreach to Port-Elizabeth and
Jeffrey's Bay. It was an enriching time for
each of us. We could be exposed to a world
in need and have become aware that we need
to shine our lights in the darkness.
We spoke, performed skits, and sang wherever
we went. In this way we tried to convey the
love of Christ for the lost. Our audiences
ranged from school kids and street kids to
the elderly in old age homes and disabled
homes. We also had the opportunity to
strengthen the body of Christ in settings
such as churches, cell groups and families.
Some of us had never been in this part of
South Africa and there were therefore new
surprises after every turn. Meeting new
people, seeing new places and getting new
insights. At every turn the Lord provided
and led the way. We are truly thankful.
It is important to mix business with
pleasure. We therefore had the privilege of
seeing Addo Elephant Park and a dolphin
show.
Our team consisted of eight people, four 4th
year students, Dr. Ilsa Vermaak, Ms. Teresa
Jonk, and Mr. Bongani Sibeko. We were also
thrilled to have with us Nonto Cibane (a 2nd
year student) who helped us in numerous
ways.
